Joey had a little bit of a rough night last night. The doctors took the drain tubes out of his amputated leg yesterday, and his leg continued draining and soaking all of his bedding about every hour through the night, which made it difficult for Joey to get any rest. The doctor is looking at possibly putting the drain tubes back in today.
Joey's fever is down this morning which is great news. The antibiotics must be working! Yeah! Keep fighting Joey!
For now, Joey will be having four hours of dialysis every day. The doctors are trying to get Joey on a regular dialysis schedule. They have told us about a special machine that could do dialysis for Joey every night, and is portable. We are hopeful that this option would work for Joey, so that when Joey gets out of the hospital, he could do dialysis at nights when he is sleeping versus having to go into the hospital frequently for dialysis. We are keeping our fingers crossed.
Joey is suffering from severe Phantom Pains on his amputation. We have been told that these pains could last for a short period of time or for a long period of time. We are trying to keep Joey as comfortable as possible and trying to find a remedy that could possibly help ease his pain. This is all so new for all of us. If any of you have ideas, suggestions, or experiences with amputations and phantom pains, please let us know.
We appreciate all your love and support! Please continue praying for Joey!
We love you Joey! Hang in there! Answers and healing will come!

Thank you for keeping up on the blog! It's one of the first things I do to start my day.... check on Joey. Then, always an appropriate prayer for the day follows. We all knew there would be some really rough times for Joey, but love him so much, we knew it would be worth it... Joey, somedays, it may not feel like it is worth it to you, with everything you are having to do and the burdens you are carrying (mostly alone)... Just remember how much everyone loves you, and although this is your personal fight, everyone is behind you to offer any strength, faith and all the love you could possibly need. I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say I wish I could take some of this burden from you. If we could all split it up amongst us, it would be so much easier. Unfortunately, life doesn't work that way. Hang in there; as mentioned above, answers and healing will come. I love you! Love - Liz (Becca's sister)
ReplyDeleteHey, if you read this comment, Amanda, Melissa's sister, works at Valley Medical Shoppe over on Washington Parkway. She has told me they sale some kind of compression hose for amputees. It's suppose to help with phantom pains. You could get in touch with her or her manager. His name is Nate. Maybe that could be a help for you, Joey... Keep Pushin'
ReplyDeleteJoey, you are such an inspiration to so many people about overcoming so many obstacles. We are all so proud of you and all the progress you are continually making. I can't even begin to imagine what you must be going through right now. Always remember how much everyone loves you and is rooting for your fast recovery. You are still constantly in our prayers.
